Description
Overview of the medicine
Cortider-1-cream is a topical corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, itching, and redness associated with various skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area once or twice daily, as directed by a physician. Rub in gently and completely. Do not use for more than 2-4 weeks without medical review.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution for thinner skin and increased absorption.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is generally required for topical use, but caution advised with extensive use due to potential systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area and rub gently. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Cortider-1-cream works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in cells, which then modulates gene expression, leading to reduced inflammation, immunosuppression, and vasoconstriction in the skin.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects usually seen within a few days.
Excretion
Mainly via kidneys, some biliary excretion.
Half life
Variable; generally short for systemic effects from topical application due to rapid metabolism.
Absorption
Systemic absorption is minimal through intact skin; however, it can be increased by occlusion, inflammation, and use on large surface areas or mucous membranes. Absorption is higher in children.
Metabolism
Primarily in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipients
- Untreated cutaneous infections (viral, bacterial, fungal)
- Acne vulgaris
- Rosacea
- Perioral dermatitis
- Pruritus without inflammation
Drug Interactions
Other topical corticosteroids
Concurrent use should be avoided to prevent excessive systemic absorption and additive side effects.
CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., Ritonavir, Itraconazole)
Co-administration may inhibit the metabolism of corticosteroids, leading to increased systemic exposure. Use with caution.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely. Chronic overuse or misuse can lead to systemic corticosteroid effects like Cushing's syndrome, adrenal suppression, and growth retardation in children. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gradual withdrawal of the steroid may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Avoid extensive use or prolonged treatment. Lactation: Corticosteroids are excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised, and use should be minimized.

Lab Monitoring
- Not routinely required for topical use. For extensive or prolonged use, monitoring for systemic corticosteroid effects (e.g., adrenal function tests, blood glucose) may be considered, especially in children.
Doctor Notes
- Consider potency and duration of use, especially in sensitive areas and children.
- Advise patients on proper application technique and potential side effects.
- Assess for underlying infections before initiating corticosteroid therapy.
- Avoid abrupt discontinuation after prolonged use to prevent rebound effects.

- Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor.
- Wash hands before and after application.
