Overview of the medicine
Esobex 40 mg capsule is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is effective in treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and other acid-related conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 20-40 mg once daily, taken at least one hour before meals, depending on the condition being treated.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Swallow the capsule whole with water, at least one hour before a meal. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole irreversibly binds to the H+/K+-ATPase proton pump in the gastric parietal cells, inhibiting the final step of acid secretion.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any excipients.
- Concomitant use with nelfinavir.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased INR and prothrombin time have been reported; monitor carefully.
Clopidogrel
May reduce the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel.
Methotrexate
May increase methotrexate levels, requiring dose adjustment.
Atazanavir/Nelfinavir
Reduced plasma concentrations of these antiretrovirals, reducing efficacy.
