Description
Overview of the medicine
G-Cipro 200 mg Injection is an antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections. It belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones, which work by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is administered intravenously.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 200 mg to 400 mg intravenously every 8 to 12 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection. Infusion time should be over 60 minutes.
Elderly
Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on renal function.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance 30-50 mL/min: 200-400 mg IV every 12 hours. For creatinine clearance <30 mL/min: 200-400 mg IV every 18-24 hours.
How to Take
G-Cipro 200 mg injection is administered as an intravenous infusion over a period of 60 minutes. It should be diluted before use according to manufacturer instructions. Do not administer as a bolus injection.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to the disruption of bacterial DNA and ultimately bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid (within minutes for IV infusion).
Excretion
Primarily renal (40-50% as unchanged drug), some fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 3 to 5 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and extensive absorption after intravenous administration.
Metabolism
Limited hepatic metabolism (10-20% to less active metabolites).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics.
- Co-administration with Tizanidine (due to risk of hypotension and somnolence).
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
Increased risk of CNS stimulation and seizures.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, leading to bleeding risk. Monitor INR.
Tizanidine
Increased risk of hypotension and somnolence. Concomitant use is contraindicated.
Cyclosporine
Increased serum creatinine levels. Monitor renal function.
Theophylline
Increased plasma levels of Theophylline, leading to toxicity. Monitor Theophylline levels.
QT-prolonging drugs
Increased risk of QT prolongation and arrhythmia.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive care is recommended. Gastric lavage and emesis may be considered. Maintain adequate hydration. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis remove only a small amount of ciprofloxacin from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Ciprofloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Ciprofloxacin is excreted into breast milk and can cause serious adverse reactions in nursing infants; therefore, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
