Use undiluted. Rinse thoroughly in the mouth for 30 seconds and then spit out. Do not swallow. For external oral use only.

Povidone-iodine works by releasing iodine, which is a potent oxidizing agent. It rapidly penetrates microbial cell walls and membranes, disrupting their structure and essential proteins, enzymes, and nucleic acids, leading to microbial death.

• Known hypersensitivity to iodine or povidone
• Thyroid disorders (e.g., hyperthyroidism) due to potential iodine absorption
• Patients undergoing radioactive iodine therapy
• Children under 6 years of age (risk of swallowing)

Accidental swallowing of large quantities may lead to gastrointestinal upset, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In rare cases, systemic absorption of iodine can occur, potentially affecting thyroid function. Management is symptomatic and supportive.
