Description
Overview of the medicine
AUP 40 mg tablet is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It treats conditions like heartburn, acid reflux, and ulcers.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For GERD: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For ulcers: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For Zollinger-Ellison: Initial 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on response.
Elderly

Renal_impairment

How to Take
Take orally, preferably in the morning, at least 30-60 minutes before a meal. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow whole.
Mechanism of Action
AUP selectively inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells. This action blocks the final step of acid production.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour, full effect within 2-3 days of regular use.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as metabolites, with a smaller amount in feces.
Half life
Approximately 1-2 hours, but duration of acid suppression is much longer.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; bioavailability is typically 30-40%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to AUP or any component of the formulation.
- Co-administration with nelfinavir due to significant reduction in nelfinavir plasma concentrations.

Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be given. No specific antidote is known.
