Description
Overview of the medicine
Bacmax 5 mg Tablet contains Baclofen, a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain caused by certain neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 5 mg three times daily for 3 days, then 10 mg three times daily for 3 days, increasing gradually to a maximum of 20 mg three times daily. Max dose 80 mg/day.
Elderly
Start with a lower dose (e.g., 5 mg once daily) and titrate slowly due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction required; administer 5 mg once daily, increasing cautiously based on response and renal function.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not stop suddenly, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms.
Mechanism of Action
Baclofen acts as a GABA-B receptor agonist in the spinal cord, inhibiting both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes. This leads to a reduction in hyperactive reflexes and muscle spasms, thereby relaxing skeletal muscles.
