Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults

Elderly
Same as adult dosage, or adjust based on clinical condition. Consult product leaflet for specific concentration and dosage.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
For oral administration. Measure the prescribed dose using the provided measuring cup or spoon.
Mechanism of Action
Butamirate Citrate is believed to exert its antitussive action by selectively depressing the cough reflex in the brainstem, without affecting the respiratory center. It also possesses some bronchodilatory effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30 minutes
Excretion
Mainly via the kidneys, primarily as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 4 hours
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Hydrolyzed to 2-phenylbutyric acid and diethylaminoethoxyethanol, which are also active.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Butamirate Citrate or any component of the syrup
- Children under 3 years of age (for specific formulations, check leaflet)
Drug Interactions
Other CNS depressants
May enhance CNS depression if used concomitantly, though unlikely with Butamirate Citrate.
Expectorants/Mucolytics
Concurrent use may lead to mucus retention in the respiratory tract due to suppressed cough reflex. Avoid co-administration.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if appropriate.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed and the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown if Butamirate Citrate is excreted in breast milk; use with caution during lactation.
