Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
20 mg intravenously or intramuscularly, repeated every 30 minutes if necessary, but total daily dose not to exceed 100 mg.
Elderly

How to Take
For intravenous (slow IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection. Administer slowly if given intravenously.
Mechanism of Action
Hyoscine Butylbromide is an anticholinergic agent that exerts its spasmolytic action on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal, biliary, and genitourinary tracts. It blocks muscarinic receptors, thereby reducing smooth muscle contraction and relieving spasm.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid (within minutes) after intravenous administration.
Excretion
Mainly via urine and feces as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Terminal half-life is approximately 5 hours (after IV administration).
Absorption
Poorly absorbed orally. When given intravenously, it is rapidly distributed.
Metabolism
Mainly hepatic metabolism, though extensive hydrolysis occurs.
