Description
Overview of the medicine
d-pira 800 mg tablet contains Piracetam, a nootropic agent used to improve cognitive function, memory, and attention in conditions like age-related cognitive decline, dyslexia, and post-stroke aphasia. It is believed to work by enhancing neuronal activity and protecting brain cells.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose: 2.4 g daily in 2-3 divided doses, gradually increased up to 4.8 g daily. Maintenance dose: 1.2-2.4 g daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment, but renal function should be monitored.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl 50-79 ml/min, 2/3 of usual dose; for CrCl 30-49 ml/min, 1/3 of usual dose; for CrCl <30 ml/min, contraindicated or highly reduced dose.
How to Take
Take tablets orally with water, with or without food. Divide daily dose into 2-3 administrations.
Mechanism of Action
Piracetam's exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it is thought to improve the function of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine via muscarinic cholinergic receptors, increase membrane fluidity, and enhance neuroprotection. It also influences neuronal excitability and protects against hypoxia.
