Description
Overview of the medicine
Dexoprex 30 mg Capsule contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It is prescribed for conditions like GERD, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 20-40 mg once daily. For severe GERD, 40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, up to 120 mg three times daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment required for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Caution with severe impairment.
How to Take
Take the capsule whole, at least one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, specifically inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells. This inhibition prevents the final step of acid production, leading to a profound and long-lasting reduction in gastric acid secretion.
