Overview of the medicine
Famisus 40 mg Suspension is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It is also used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For active duodenal ulcer: 40 mg once daily at bedtime for 4-8 weeks. For GERD: 20-40 mg twice daily for 6-12 weeks. For pathological hypersecretory conditions: 20-160 mg every 6 hours.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution in severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction (e.g., 20 mg once daily or every other day) is recommended for creatinine clearance <10 mL/min.
How to Take
Shake well before use. May be taken with or without food. Use a measuring device for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Famotidine is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking the action of histamine on H2 receptors on the parietal cells of the stomach.

Drug Interactions
Antacids

Cefpodoxime proxetil
Reduced absorption due to gastric pH changes.
Ketoconazole/Itraconazole
Famotidine can decrease the absorption of these drugs due to increased gastric pH. Administer several hours apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms may include hypotension, tachycardia, vomiting, and diarrhea. Management includes symptomatic and supportive therapy.
