Overview of the medicine
Fexten 120 mg Tablet contains fexofenadine hydrochloride, a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: 120 mg or 180 mg once daily. Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
For seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl < 80 mL/min), the recommended starting dose is 60 mg once daily. For chronic idiopathic urticaria, 60 mg once daily.
How to Take
May be taken with or without food. Avoid taking with fruit juices (grapefruit, orange, apple) as they can reduce absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-blocker. It inhibits histamine release and blocks histamine's action on H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms without significant central nervous system effects.

Excreted mainly in the feces (80%) and urine (11%) primarily as unchanged drug.

Minimally metabolized; primarily unchanged in feces and urine.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin, Ketoconazole
Can increase fexofenadine plasma concentrations. Co-administration should be avoided or monitored.
Antacids containing Aluminum and Magnesium
Can reduce fexofenadine absorption. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, dizziness, and dry mouth. Management is symptomatic and supportive; hemodialysis is not effective.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Excreted in breast milk, so caution advised during lactation.
