Lab Monitoring

• For long-term use (over 3 years), periodic monitoring of Vitamin B12 levels may be considered.
• Magnesium levels should be monitored in patients expected to be on prolonged treatment or who take concomitant digoxin or diuretics.

Doctor Notes

• Evaluate patients for underlying causes of dyspepsia before initiating PPI therapy.
• Prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with the patient's condition.
• Advise patients on lifestyle modifications to complement drug therapy for GERD.

Patient Guidelines

• Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break it.
• Take it at least one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning.
• Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.

Missed Dose Advice

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Driving Precautions

Esomeprazole is generally safe for driving. However, side effects like dizziness or visual disturbances may occur; if affected, avoid driving or operating machinery.

Lifestyle Advice

• Avoid trigger foods such as spicy, fatty, acidic foods, caffeine, and alcohol.
• Maintain a healthy weight and avoid large meals, especially before bedtime.
• Elevate the head of your bed to reduce nighttime reflux symptoms.
