Description
Overview of the medicine
Fluroid-G-01-03 Suspension is an ophthalmic or otic suspension containing a combination of a corticosteroid (Fluocinolone Acetonide) and an aminoglycoside antibiotic (Gentamicin Sulfate) used to treat inflammatory and infectious conditions of the eye or ear.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 drops into the affected eye/ear 2-4 times daily, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for systemic absorption if prolonged use.
Renal_impairment
Systemic absorption is minimal, so no specific adjustment for topical use. Caution with prolonged use in severe renal impairment due to gentamicin.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Instill drops into the affected eye or ear. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Fluocinolone Acetonide acts as a potent anti-inflammatory corticosteroid by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. Gentamicin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours for symptomatic relief.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged via kidneys (gentamicin); metabolites excreted via kidneys (fluocinolone).
Half life
Systemic half-life of gentamicin is 2-4 hours; fluocinolone not well characterized systemically after topical use.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption following topical ophthalmic or otic administration. Local absorption into ocular/otic tissues.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver (gentamicin, some fluocinolone).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fluocinolone, gentamicin, or any component.
- Viral infections of the eye/ear (e.g., herpes simplex keratitis).
- Fungal infections of the eye/ear.
- Mycobacterial infections of the eye/ear.
- Untreated purulent infections of the eye/ear.
Drug Interactions
Other ophthalmic/otic preparations

Storage

Overdose
Due to minimal systemic absorption, acute overdose from topical application is unlikely. If accidentally ingested, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation only if potential benefit outweighs potential risk. Consult a doctor.
