G-Fix 200 mg Capsule contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, used to treat various bacterial infections including those of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, and skin.

Uses & Indications

Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

Otitis Media

Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis

Acute Bronchitis and Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis

Uncomplicated Gonorrhea

Dosage

Adults

200-400 mg once or twice daily depending on the severity of the infection. For uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single dose of 400 mg is recommended.

Elderly

No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients with normal renal function. Dosage should be adjusted in case of renal impairment.

Renal_impairment

For creatinine clearance 21-60 mL/min, 75% of the standard dose; for creatinine clearance <20 mL/min, 50% of the standard dose.

How to Take

G-Fix capsule should be taken orally with or without food. It is recommended to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the physician.

Mechanism of Action

Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.

Peak plasma concentrations are generally achieved within 2-6 hours after oral administration.

Primarily excreted via renal mechanisms (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion) and some biliary excretion.

Side Effects

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to Cefixime, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation.
History of severe hypersensitivity reaction to penicillin.

Drug Interactions

Warfarin

May increase prothrombin time, monitor INR.

Probenecid

May increase Cefixime concentrations.

Carbamazepine

Elevated carbamazepine levels have been reported with concurrent Cefixime use.

Oral Contraceptives

May decrease the efficacy of oral contraceptives; use alternative contraception.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Overdose

In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be indicated. Cefixime is not removed in significant quantities by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Management is primarily supportive.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B. Cefixime should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
