Description
Overview of the medicine
Inflavis-01 Eye Drop contains Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate, a potent corticosteroid, used to treat inflammation of the eye. It works by reducing swelling, redness, and irritation in the eyes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 4-6 times daily. Dosage may be reduced gradually as inflammation subsides.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for systemic effects if used long-term.
Renal_impairment
Not applicable for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, instill the drops without touching the eye with the dropper tip, and close the eye gently. Apply pressure to the inner corner of the eye for one minute to minimize systemic absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Dexamethasone is a synthetic adrenocortical steroid that has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins).
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours of administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as inactive metabolites.
Half life
Systemic half-life is 3-4.5 hours; however, local half-life in ocular tissues varies.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration. Local absorption occurs into ocular tissues.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites. Some metabolism may occur in ocular tissues.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva (e.g., Herpes simplex keratitis)
- Fungal diseases of ocular structures
- Mycobacterial infections of the eye
- Untreated purulent bacterial infections of the eye
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs (topical ocular)
Concurrent use may increase the risk of corneal healing problems.
Other ophthalmic medications
If using multiple eye drops, administer them at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Topical ophthalmic overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to minimal systemic absorption. If irritation occurs, flush the eye with water. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Dexamethasone may pass into breast milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
