Overview of the medicine
Keolax 10 mg Tablet contains Bisacodyl, a stimulant laxative used for the short-term treatment of constipation. It also helps in bowel evacuation before medical procedures or surgery.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 5-15 mg once daily, preferably at bedtime. Max 30 mg/day for bowel preparation.
Elderly
Start with the lowest effective dose.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment generally required, but caution is advised in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take tablets orally, usually at bedtime. Swallow whole with water, do not chew or crush. Avoid taking within one hour of milk or antacids.
Mechanism of Action
Bisacodyl stimulates the nerves in the colon, causing increased bowel motility and fluid secretion into the colon. This action promotes bowel movements.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Diuretics
May increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance.
Corticosteroids
May increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance.
Antacids, H2-blockers, Proton pump inhibitors
May cause premature dissolution of the enteric coating, leading to gastric irritation and dyspepsia. Should be taken at least one hour apart.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and significant fluid and electrolyte loss (especially potassium). Management involves supportive care, correction of fluid and electrolyte imbalance.

Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Limited human data available.
