Description
Overview of the medicine
Kitmax-2 Medicated Bar is an antifungal soap containing Ketoconazole 2%. It is used for the treatment of various fungal skin infections such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply to affected areas of skin and surrounding healthy skin once daily for 2-4 weeks. For seborrheic dermatitis, use 2-3 times a week.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
Wet the affected area, apply the bar to create lather, gently massage, and leave on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. For best results, use a separate towel for affected areas and ensure the bar is kept dry after use.
Mechanism of Action
Ketoconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to increased permeability of the fungal cell membrane, resulting in leakage of cellular contents and ultimately fungal cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief may be seen within a few days; complete clearance may take weeks.
Excretion
Primarily via bile and urine if systemically absorbed, but negligible with topical use.
Half life
Not applicable for topical use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption may be higher from damaged skin.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver if systemically absorbed, but negligible with topical use.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any component of the bar
Drug Interactions
No significant drug interactions expected with topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
However, avoid concomitant use of other topical antifungal preparations unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to minimal absorption. Excessive application may lead to skin irritation. If ingested, seek medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation should be done with caution and only if clearly needed, under medical advice. Minimal systemic absorption reduces risk, but consult a doctor.
