Description
Overview of the medicine
Benfloxin 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 500 mg once daily or 250 mg twice daily, depending on the type and severity of infection. Duration varies from 7-14 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required solely based on age; however, renal function should be assessed and dose adjusted if needed.
Renal_impairment
Dosage must be adjusted based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl 30-60 mL/min, 250 mg once daily; for CrCl <30 mL/min, 250 mg every 48 hours.
How to Take
Benfloxin 500 mg Tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Benfloxin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to bacterial cell death.

Primarily excreted renally via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion, both as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 8-10 hours
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, with bioavailability typically around 70-80%.
Metabolism
Undergoes limited hepatic metabolism; main metabolites are active.
