Description
Overview of the medicine
Eclo-005-cream contains Eclometasone Dipropionate, a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, itching, and redness in various skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician. Rub in gently and completely.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage; caution advised for long-term use on large areas.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and gently rub in. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application (unless hands are the treated area). Do not cover the treated area with occlusive dressings unless directed by a doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Eclometasone Dipropionate acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It suppresses the migration of neutrophils, reduces the production of inflammatory mediators, reverses increased capillary permeability, and exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects typically begin within hours to days of initial application.
Excretion
Metabolites are excreted primarily in the urine and feces if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids can occur, especially through damaged skin or with occlusive dressings. It is generally minimal.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the skin, with any systemically absorbed drug metabolized extensively in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Eclometasone Dipropionate or any component of the cream
- Untreated cutaneous infections (viral, bacterial, fungal)
- Acne vulgaris, rosacea
- Perioral dermatitis
- Pruritus without inflammation
Drug Interactions
Systemic corticosteroids
Concurrent use may increase the risk of systemic corticosteroid side effects, although generally minimal with topical use.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely. Chronic excessive use or misuse may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects, including adrenal suppression. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; gradual withdrawal of the steroid may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Avoid large areas or prolonged use. Exercise caution when administering to a nursing mother; consult your doctor before use.

Clinical Trials
Eclometasone Dipropionate has undergone various clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy and safety in treating corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. Specific trials for generic Eclo-005-cream would focus on bioequivalence.
Lab Monitoring
- For extensive or prolonged use, monitoring of HPA axis suppression (e.g., ACTH stimulation test) may be considered, especially in children.
Doctor Notes
- Advise patients on appropriate application technique and the importance of not exceeding the prescribed duration.
- Caution against use on the face, intertriginous areas, or for prolonged periods, especially in children and infants.
- Educate patients about potential signs of skin atrophy or systemic absorption and when to seek medical advice.
Patient Guidelines
- Use only as directed by your doctor and for the prescribed duration.
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
- Do not use on the face, groin, or axillae unless specifically advised by your doctor.

- Inform your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment.
Missed Dose Advice
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose.
Driving Precautions
Topical Eclometasone Dipropionate is not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Lifestyle Advice
