Atorvastatin has been extensively studied in numerous clinical trials (e.g., ASCOT-LLA, MIRACL, TNT, APROVE IT) demonstrating its efficacy in reducing lipid levels and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

Lab Monitoring

• Liver function tests (ALT/AST) should be performed before the initiation of Liptor and periodically thereafter.
• Lipid panel (Total Cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C, Triglycerides) should be monitored regularly to assess treatment efficacy.
• Creatine Kinase (CK) levels should be measured if muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs.

Doctor Notes

• Emphasize strict adherence to diet and lifestyle modifications.
• Monitor liver function tests (LFTs) at baseline and as clinically indicated.
• Educate patients on symptoms of myopathy and prompt reporting.
• Review potential drug interactions, especially with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors and fibrates.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and active liver disease.

Patient Guidelines

• Take Liptor exactly as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel well.
• Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
• Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever or dark urine.
• Avoid consuming excessive amounts of grapefruit juice while on this medication.

Missed Dose Advice

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Driving Precautions

Liptor is not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience dizziness or visual disturbances, you should exercise caution.
