Description
Overview of the medicine
Activit-Zi Syrup is a comprehensive nutritional supplement containing a blend of essential B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B6, Nicotinamide, D-Panthenol) and the vital trace mineral Zinc. It is formulated to address deficiencies and support overall health, metabolic functions, and immune system.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
2 teaspoonfuls (10 ml) 2 to 3 times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, or as directed by a physician.
Renal_impairment
Generally safe at recommended doses; consult physician for severe impairment.
How to Take
For oral administration. Can be taken with or without food. Shake well before use.
Mechanism of Action
B-complex vitamins act as coenzymes in various metabolic pathways, essential for energy production, cell growth, and nerve function. Zinc is crucial for immune function, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and catalytic activity of over 300 enzymes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Nutritional benefits accumulate over days to weeks with regular use.
Excretion
Water-soluble B vitamins are primarily excreted in urine. Excess zinc is mainly excreted via feces, with some renal excretion.
Half life
Varies for each component; B vitamins have short half-lives due to water solubility. Zinc's half-life can range from 1 to 2 hours in plasma, but tissue retention is longer.
Absorption
B vitamins are water-soluble and readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Zinc is absorbed primarily from the small intestine, with absorption varying based on dietary factors.
Metabolism
B vitamins are metabolized in the liver. Zinc is not extensively metabolized but integrated into proteins and enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
- Hypervitaminosis (rare for water-soluble vitamins at recommended doses).
Drug Interactions
Levodopa
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa (not carbidopa-levodopa combination).
Penicillamine
Zinc may interfere with the absorption of penicillamine.
Tetracycline and Quinolone Antibiotics
Zinc may reduce the absorption of these antibiotics. Administer zinc at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after these antibiotics.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and a metallic taste in the mouth (due to excess zinc). Acute overdose of B vitamins is generally rare due to their water-soluble nature. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Management is supportive and symptomatic.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe and often beneficial during pregnancy and lactation to meet increased nutritional demands, but use with caution and only if clearly needed. Consult a physician.
