Description
Overview of the medicine
Allet 0.1% Eye Drop (Olopatadine) is an ophthalmic solution used to relieve ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One drop in each affected eye twice daily, approximately 6 to 8 hours apart.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage; no specific adjustment needed.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ocular use only. Instill drops into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Olopatadine is a selective H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It prevents histamine release from mast cells and blocks histamine's effects on H1-receptors, thereby reducing itching and other allergic symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, within minutes of application.
Excretion
Mainly via renal excretion as unchanged drug after systemic absorption.
Half life
Approximately 3 hours (systemic, though ocular effect is localized).
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Minimal metabolism in the eye. Primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to olopatadine or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Medications
If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is used, the drugs should be administered at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), protected from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to limited absorption. In case of accidental ingestion, symptomatic treatment may be necessary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution advised during lactation as it is unknown if olopatadine is excreted in human milk.
