Description
Overview of the medicine
Fluvate-0005-ointment contains Fluocinolone Acetonide, a potent corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, itching, and redness in various skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area 2-3 times daily, or as directed by the physician. Do not use for more than 2 weeks without medical advice.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage. Use with caution, especially for prolonged periods, due to increased skin fragility in some elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required for topical use in renal impairment.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area and rub it gently until it disappears. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Fluocinolone Acetonide works by inhibiting the release of chemicals that cause inflammation in the body. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itching), and vasoconstrictive (narrowing of blood vessels) properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects can be observed within hours to a day after application.
Excretion
Excreted mainly by the kidneys.
Half life
The systemic half-life of absorbed Fluocinolone Acetonide is not precisely defined for topical application; however, it is metabolized in the liver.
Absorption
Absorption through the skin is variable and depends on the integrity of the epidermal barrier, application site, and use of occlusive dressings. Systemic absorption can occur.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fluocinolone Acetonide or any component of the ointment
- Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella)
- Primary bacterial or fungal skin infections (unless concurrent appropriate anti-infective therapy is used)
- Acne vulgaris, rosacea, perioral dermatitis
- Ulcerative conditions, perianal and genital pruritus
Drug Interactions
No significant systemic drug interactions
Systemic absorption of topical Fluocinolone Acetonide is generally low, so significant drug interactions are unlikely. However, avoid concurrent use of other potent topical corticosteroids on the same area.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely with topical use. However, prolonged or excessive use of corticosteroids, especially over large surface areas or under occlusive dressings, can lead to systemic effects such as Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and adrenal suppression. Symptomatic treatment is recommended.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Topical corticosteroids should not be used extensively or for prolonged periods during pregnancy. Exercise caution when administering to a nursing mother; avoid applying to breast area.
